The Malta Youth in Agriculture (MaYA) Foundation is commemorating its 10th anniversary, reflecting on a decade of advocating for sustainable agriculture and addressing the challenges faced by young farmers and breeders in the Maltese Islands.
Since its establishment in 2014, MaYA has been a consistent voice for the agricultural community, tackling key issues such as land use, climate change, and food security. Over the years, the Foundation has contributed to shaping national discussions on agriculture, sustainability, and the future of the sector.
During the pandemic restrictive period, MaYA played a crucial role in advocating for farmers and breeders. The Foundation highlighted the pressures the sector faced and emphasised the importance of local agriculture in ensuring food security during a time of global uncertainty.
MaYA’s work extends beyond crisis advocacy. Over the past decade, the Foundation has engaged with policymakers and stakeholders, provided constructive feedback on agricultural policies, and supported initiatives aimed at improving farming practices. Its commitment to promoting sustainable and diversified agriculture has remained at the core of its mission.
As it marks this milestone, MaYA acknowledges the progress made and the work that lies ahead. The Foundation remains dedicated to supporting young farmers, fostering collaboration, and upholding policies that strengthen Malta’s agricultural sector.
